Launching
in 2009
Hennessy
and Hinchcliffe Inc. are set to launch the world’s
first 3.0 litre-per-flush high-efficiency toilet in
2009. Currently dubbed the H & H N7716, this Canadian
designed toilet features revolutionary flushing technology
and superior performance. Developed by the same design
team behind the Niagara Flapperless leak-free toilet,
the H & H N7716 will be the world’s most efficient
single-flush toilet and it’s being distributed
from the manufacturer’s headquarters right here
in the GTA. By installing the N7716, apartment owners
and managers will be able to achieve previously unheard
of levels of water savings as they could possibly cut
their domestic water consumption in half.

The
N7716’s patented flushing system works under
varying water pressure and uses a specially designed
trapway and air pressure transfer system to efficiently
flush away waste. Unlike pressure-assist toilets however,
the N7716 functions without the noisy canister or
expensive replacement parts. Its siphonic flush acts
quickly and quietly, yet outperforms toilets with
much larger flush volumes.
On a recent episode of CBC Spark
1, correspondent Nora Young paid a visit
to Bill Gauley of Veritec Consulting to see a first-hand
demonstration of the N7716 in action. The N7716 easily
flushed 500 grams of test material (a much greater amount
than in the typical person’s washroom visit) while
a nearby 13 litre per flush toilet clogged on the same
volume.

The results are promising, as a recent test run in
a Toronto apartment building confirmed. At 51 Donlands
Ave., a 53-unit apartment in The Danforth, the management
replaced all existing toilets with the N7716 over
a five-day period. The reduction in daily water consumption
was immediate and drastic (see Figure 1). Total water
consumption in the building almost halved, from an
average 20,916 litres per day to only 11,414 litres.
Per unit consumption dropped from an average 337 litres/suite/day
to only 184 litres/suite/day. This new line of 3.0
lpf toilets will save property owners tens of thousands
of litres of water from reduced flush volumes daily.

Hennessy and Hinchcliffe Inc. are introducing this
new technology in two vitreous china models - the
N7716 round front and the N7717 comfort height (ADA-compliant
elongated bowl) that includes a soft-close designer
seat (N7717). Water Matrix Inc., a City of Toronto
approved water efficiency services company based in
Woodbridge, will be handling all distribution and
marketing.
Eager property owners and managers will be able to
take a preview of the N7716/17 at PM EXPO, December
3, 4, and 5 at the Metro Convention Centre, South
building. A working model will be on display at Water
Matrix’ booth #1707.
